  • The importance of Lesson's learned So you just finished a Go Live...What is the next thing you need to do, other than go to Disneyland?Start a lesson's learned document for yourself. I am sure that any project manager worth their weight in project plans and timelines has already approached you to aid in putting together a lesson's learned document for the project. While that will help them with more go live events for other locations, as well as help the facility understand how to implement a large undertaking such as this much more smoothly, you need to have one for yourself. Why?Because it is a great way to document what you have done, what you have learned, and what obstacles ...

  • Giving advice is the difference... You talk and hope they listen...What is the difference between a consultant and an employee? The truth is that there is a very fine line in the Epic world. We as consultants have or will become 'hired hands.' Our responsibility is to step in and help the client fill gaps they cannot get with the resources they have. Essentially, we are back filling positions for the client or filling positions not easily filled in house. What makes a difference is the work we have accomplished, we have the experience to know that it is correct and will work. • Top 1% on LinkedIn So,I received this today in an email. It is great to see the success of LinkedIn as not only a social network but a platform for reaching people professionally. I have seen LinkedIn change from something I only used to update my resume to something I like to be involved in, created a LinkedIn group with close to 500 members, and help educate people looking to become Epic Consultants.I don't know how many searches my profile actually received but to be in the top 1% versus the 200 million people who are actually using LinkedIn is mind blowing! Well here's to the success of LinkedIn and to another great year of Epic EMR Consultant Corner!Jeff

  • Knowing Who To Trust Do you know who to trust?I am going to tell you it is hard to tell. I have talked to so many recruiters in my day, and you really have to wonder if what they are saying is the truth. You will spend an enormous amount of time talking to them, and if they are not getting you anywhere, it is hard to trust anything they say.Key things to look out for...if all they want is your resume,,,if they choose to submit you to one of their clients...If they quickly agree to the salary range you are expecting...if they send you and email saying that you look like what they are looking for...So ...

  • Opinions matter? Often you are going to experience negative opinions from people...I have had it happened. I have experienced the 'dress down' by managers over issues. I have survived what I often described as the 'worst client known to man.' All that to say, I don't have to accept your view of reality.People will express their opinions. When we are stressed, we want to vent our anger and frustration at 'someone.' Consultants are easy targets. Oh, and once you leave a client, unless you are Mary Poppins, I guarantee you probably won't leave a client unscathed.Don't let it hurt your self esteem. I mean that! If you are on a client location for any extended period ...
